Finland is a country with an area of 338,145 km² with 586 km west of the border with Sweden, 727 km north with Norway, east 1269 km with the Russian Federation and about 1100 km of coastline along the Baltic sea. A quarter of its territory extends beyond the Arctic Circle. The country is made up of plates, with average altitudes vary between 120 and 180 meters above sea level. The terrain becomes more hilly in the north (near the chain of Scandes). The highest point of the country is Mount Haltiatunturi (1328 m) in Lapland (North). Finland has approximately 188,000 lakes over 500 . The forests of conifers and birches represent 65% of the territory, which makes Finland one of the largest forest reserves in Europe. Lapland is the area of tundra (low vegetation and sparse).
